Welcome to the first in a ten-part series exploring biking destinations through Switzerland. For the full video and visual feast head to our sister site CyclingTips.
Here Dave and Keir pack their BMCs and head to Ticino to start the first of many brilliant days exploring one of Europe's most spectacular countries. Regarded as Switzerland’s warmest and sunniest canton, Ticino shares a border, a language, and a culture with Italy, as well as two magnificent lakes. Lagos Maggiore and Lugano have long been favoured by Europe's well-heeled, who for centuries have enjoyed its turquoise waters, palm-lined shores, and beautiful villages and gardens.
Taking a leaf from their book you may want to start the day with a coffee on the dock as you watch luxury yachts and speedboats coming in and out of the marina. There's a big nod to Italy here, but ultimately this is certainly Switzerland - the fastidiously clean footpaths, perfectly-presented shop windows right down to the well-groomed pooches just gives it away.
But overlooking it all is the mountains, and it's here the lads head. Find out more from CyclingTips or check out this quick video of the trip. We'll see you again soon for the next adventures in beautiful Andermatt.
The bikes used in Ticino by the lads included a BMC Speedfox 01, a BMC Team Machine SLR01 and a BMC Road Machine 01
